Timetable

 9.30 – 10.00 Registration

10.00 – 11.00  Head

-Meninges,  overview of brain & brain stem, descriptive areas of the brain, functional regions of the cerebral hemispheres, internal structure of the cerebral hemispheres (basal ganglia etc),

11.00 – 11.15  Tea/Coffee

11.15 – 12.00   Head (cont’d)

-Ventricular system, overview of cranial nerves, closer  look at CN’s II, III, V, VI, VII, VIII, venous sinuses, arterial supply and functional areas supplied by the major arteries.

12.00 – 13.00   Abdomen

-General arrangement of the abdominal cavity (structures which are retroperitoneal  and those on a mesentery),  spaces within the abdominal cavity, gut tube from terminal oesophagus to anal canal.

 13.00 – 13.30  Lunch

 13.30 – 15.00  Abdomen (cont’d)

-Abdominal organs : liver and the biliary apparatus,  pancreas, spleen, kidneys and adrenal glands, blood supply and venous drainage of the gut tube and abdominal organs (portal venous system).

15.00 - 15.30  The Lymphatic system

-The basic arrangement of structures in the male pelvis – the prostate gland and associated structures.  The basic arrangement of the female pelvis – uterus, uterine tubes, ovaries.  Arterial supply and venous drainage of the female pelvis.

15.30 – 16.00   Feedback Session

-Each session will include the anatomy linked to commonly observed images of the area being looked at.  Commonly encountered pathology will be included where relevant.  The approach throughout will be to understand the anatomy rather than the rote learning of facts and to make it relevant to radiographers and radiation therapists in their day-to-day work.
